Each player has 8 cards. Each card shows one half of a compound word and picture. Example: Find a "Sun" card and a "Glasses" Card to form 1 new word "Sunglasses". Be the first player to find 4 new words from your 8 cards to win the round.

On Your Turn

  • Choose 1 card from the draw pile (face down) or the discard pile (face up).

  • Then choose 1 card to place face up on the discard pile to end your turn.

Out of Turn Trading. *Keep an eye on the discard pile it's a game changer!

Before the next player draws, any other player may be the first to ask, “Can I trade for that?” referring to the top face-up discard. The current player says “Yes” or “No.”

If yes, the asking player takes the discard and replaces it with a card from their hand and play continues; if no, no trade occurs. You can only win on your turn—completing 4 new words during a trade does not count until your turn.

Pairloopa reference cards. One card shows compound connections.

Use your reference card (Pair the Pictures to form a word) as a guide to help you find the correct pairs faster. Each player receives 1 "Pair the Pictures to form a word" card.

Keeping score of each round

Pairloopa scoring examples.

The first player, during their turn to have 4 correct compound words from their 8 cards wins the round and scores 0 points for that round.

All other players add up their remaining cards:

  • 5 points for each matched pair (including wild cards)
  • 10 points for each unmatched card

After recording the scores, shuffle the cards and play another round!
